How to Enroll in Classes

The following enrollment checklist provides you with the necessary steps you need to complete in order to be admitted and begin classes at Florence-Darlington Technical College:

1.   Apply for Admission

Complete an online application at

2.   Submit proof of high school graduation or GED

A high school diploma or GED must be from an accredited institution recognized by the state of South Carolina.

Some programs do not require a high school diploma/GED.  Contact Admissions for additional information.

3.   Submit test scores

An applicant must have satisfactory test scores to enter FDTC. There is a five-year time limit on all entrance test scores. If you do not have SAT or ACT scores you will need to take the COMPASS test.  The COMPASS test is administered Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 7:00 pm and Friday 8:00-4:00 pm at the main campus as well as at the Hartsville (843-383-4500), Lake City (843-494-7233), and Mullins (843-676-8567). No appointment is required at the main campus. Appointments are encouraged at the Hartsville, Lake City, and Mullins sites. The first test is free.  The test evaluates reading, writing, and mathematical skills and normally takes 1 – 1 ½ hours to complete.  A picture ID is required. 4.   Submit your college transcript(s)

Upon evaluation, transfer credit may be awarded or portions of test score requirements may be waived.

5.   Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Apply online.  You will need a PIN to electronically sign your FAFSA.  Apply for one now at After receiving your PIN, apply for financial aid online at The school code for Florence-Darlington Technical College is 003990.

6.   Set up your Password and Log On to your FREE EMAIL account

To set your password: Click on PassChange, on Retrieve your username. Set up your password.  Set up your security questions.

Now you’re ready to set up your email.

On, Click on Student Email, enter your Username and Password.

Check your college email account daily.  It is the college’s primary method of communicating important information to you.

7.   Register for classes

Once you are accepted you will be referred to an Academic advisor.  The advisor will meet with you to develop a class schedule tailored to meet your individual needs.  Make sure to inform your advisor if you prefer day or evening classes, online or traditional classes, or classes on the main campus or at one of our convenient sites in Hartsville, Lake City, or Mullins.

8.  Pay your fees

The Business Office is located on the 2nd floor of the 5000 Building on the main campus.  For hours of operation, contact them directly at (843) 661-8311.  Fees can also be paid online.  Short on cash?  Ask about the deferred tuition payment plan!

9.   Obtain your Student ID Card

The Student Activities Office is located on the 1st floor of the 5000 Building. For hours of operation, contact them directly at (843) 661-8282.

10. Obtain your parking decal

The Security Office issues parking decals. Submit your current driver’s license, class schedule with student ID number, and car registration. Contact them directly at (843) 661-8210.
